Do you need surgery performed on your shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, or hand? If so, you can receive the care you need at Swift Institute. We’re proud to have been serving patients in Reno, NV, Carson City, and surrounding areas since 1966. Although we generally recommend that patients first attempt to relieve their symptoms using conservative methods, we also offer a variety of upper extremity procedures for when surgery is necessary.
What surgeries do we offer?
The skilled orthopedic surgeons on our team have experience performing a wide array of surgical procedures on the upper extremities. Some of the surgeries we most commonly perform include:
- Rotator cuff surgery – If you’ve torn your rotator cuff, we can perform surgery to repair the tear and reattach the tendon to the humerus (your upper arm bone). And in less severe cases, we may be able to provide relief by simply smoothing or trimming the tendon.
- Shoulder replacement surgery – We most often perform traditional shoulder replacement surgery, which involves replacing the top of the humerus with a prosthetic ball and the shoulder socket with a prosthetic cup. For patients with an irreparably torn rotator cuff or cuff tear arthropathy, however, we also offer reverse shoulder replacement surgery, during which we replace the top of the humerus with a prosthetic cup and the shoulder socket with a prosthetic ball.
- Carpal tunnel release surgery – In order to relieve pressure on the median nerve, we divide the transverse carpal ligament and increase the size of the carpal tunnel.
