What is PRP Therapy?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy utilizes platelets taken from the patient’s own blood to help repair damaged tendons or cartilage. Platelets normally circulate within the blood stream and are responsible for blood clotting and initiating a healing response in an acute injury. Many acute injuries do not heal adequately and can lead to chronic pain and loss of function of the injured area. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy allows us to harvest the patient’s own platelets and re-inject those platelets into the site of the injury with the goal of improving function. This is typically done under image guidance such as ultrasound or fluoroscopy.
What is Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate?
Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate can repair tissues that are too damaged to heal on their own. BMAC, also known as bone marrow aspirate concentrate, is a fluid containing cells taken from bone marrow. The first step in producing BMAC is to collect bone marrow aspirate. At Swift Institute this is completed through a minimally invasive image guided procedure using a needle to remove bone marrow from a large bone, such as the pelvic bone. The procedure is generally completed under local anesthesia. The aspirate is processed using a centrifuge. When combined with other bone marrow cells and platelets, stem and progenitor cells can be used to heal tissue when injected. BMC contains proteins, called cytokines and growth factors, that aid in healing tissue. A decrease in inflammation and new tissue formation can result from bone marrow concentrate. Swift Institute uses well-accepted evidence based treatment options, including bone marrow aspirate (BMAC) therapy.
What is Lipogems® therapy?
Lipogems is a cutting edge technology that uses the natural and powerful reparative capability of your fat tissue typically taken from either your belly or flank (love handles). Fat has a high concentration of reparative cells and is used to help you heal. The fat is used to help support tissue repair. The Lipogems procedure can be performed in approximately one hour in an outpatient clinical setting. The Lipogems procedure requires only local anesthesia and there is minimal recovery time.
