Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Fellowship-trained in Pain Medicine
Dr. Hugh McDermott joins the Swift Institute Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department after completing fellowship-training in Pain Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta. He is board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Before his fellowship, Dr. McDermott fulfilled residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehab at Emory University and the University of Loyola. He completed a transitional year of training and education at Presence Health-St. Joseph Hospital as a follow up to medical school at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. McDermott’s procedural experience includes interventional spine and musculoskeletal injections, radiofrequency ablations, electrodiagnostic studies, sacroiliac joint fusions, vertebral augmentation, and peripheral nerve stimulation.
Dr. McDermott is a member of the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Spine Interventional Society, the North American Spine Society, the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and the Interventional Orthobiologic Foundation.
He strives to exhaust all conservative measures to help patients return to a more active life with their families and work. He also understands the importance of keeping the human element in healthcare. “I often find that making time for quality discussion during the clinic visit helps my patients’ aches and pains as much as any other treatment options available to them,” says Dr. McDermott.
