Physician Assistant
Spine Surgery and Neurosurgery Specialized
Katy is a physician assistant in the Spine Neurosurgery department at Swift Spine Institute. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). As a physician assistant, Katy works closely with the spine-trained neurosurgeons, Dr. James Lynch, Dr. Edward Perry, Dr. Shane Abdunnur, and Dr. Richard Price, and assists in clinical and surgical settings.
During her Master's Physician Assistant training at the University of St. Francis (USF), Katy completed clinical rotations in orthopedics, internal medicine, general surgery, plastic surgery, emergency medicine, family medicine, pediatrics, behavioral medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology. In addition, Katy earned her bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Studies at Washington & Lee University (WLU).
During her medical training, Katy most enjoyed her surgical rotations and assisting in the operating room. In addition to the skills she acquired while first assisting in a variety of surgical sub-specialties, she was also trained in the following procedures: venipuncture, acute and chronic wound care, incision and drainage, joint injection, suturing, bracing, casting, and more.
At the conclusion of her medical training, Katy was inducted into the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for Physician Assistants in recognition of her academic achievement, leadership, and community/professional service.
In her spare time Katy enjoys running, hiking, camping, traveling, painting, and photography. She is grateful for the opportunity to explore the outdoors of Nevada and the west coast with her husband, and is happy to call Reno "Home".
