About Dr. Louie

Dr. Timothy Louie joined the Swift Institute Neurology team in 2023. Originally from Southern California, Dr. Louie relocated to the Reno - Tahoe area in 1997 after completing a fellowship in neuromuscular diseases at the University of Utah. Before that, he completed his BA with a combined biology and chemistry major at Point Loma Nazarene College in San Diego in 1988. Dr. Louie earned his MD at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his internship at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1993 before finishing his residency training at UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA.

Dr. Louie practiced general neurology privately for 18 years before joining a Reno-based medical group in 2015. He has a special interest in neuromuscular diseases such as neuropathies, myopathies, motor neuron diseases, and myasthenia gravis. He has served as medical director of Northern Nevada’s only Muscular Dystrophy Association clinic. Dr. Louie works in cooperation with the ALS Association Nevada Chapter, operating a multidisciplinary ALS clinic in Reno.

When he is not in the office, you may find Dr. Louie cooking, hiking, biking, playing tennis, or rarely on the golf course. He's also an avid Nevada Wolfpack and West Virginia Mountaineers football and basketball fan
